A Single Scarlet Thread
My good friend, Holley, says, “Our job is to be faithful. God’s job is results.”
It’s something I hold onto when I look back at ministry. In some situations, I can clearly see “fruit” and I love that. In other seasons, however, I don’t necessarily see the results I hoped for. And yet I know that in each, God called me. My role was to be faithful, to show up, to listen for his voice, and to be present in that season.
Our role is obedience. God’s is results.
I believe one day we’ll be astonished at what God can do with faithfulness. While we worry about numbers or affirmation or success, he centers on eternal results.
I share this because we are about to dive into the next book in the Legacy series. I actually wrote the second book, A Single Scarlet Thread, first with a different title. It’s set in the 1970’s. It’s about two younger people who fall in love, but their lives are vastly different — until a single scarlet thread reveals God’s hand all along.
The novel you just read, Generous Orchid, was birthed because that “single scarlet thread” haunted me and sent me deep into research. I stumbled into the Boxer Revolution. Into Tientsin, China during the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. Into the characters of Sunsoo and Annabelle and Joseph.
That’s when I saw the beauty of faithfulness show up three full generations later and it became a book.
The next book in the series
As you remember, we left Generous Orchid on a bit of a cliff hanger.
Did Annabelle return to China?
What happened to Sunsoo?
Was the plan to travel to China a mistake?
Those questions and more will be answered in a haunting new book that launches next week. In fact, we’ll see the “single scarlet thread” of God’s hand woven through the faithfulness of individuals and how that shows up generations later.
If you are new, you might be asking, “How does this work?
I’ll release one chapter a week for the first month, and then two chapters a week thereafter. Just like the previous book, paid subscribers have access to book club questions, author insight and interaction, complete chapters, as well as access to the complete archive. Paid subscriptions support TogetHER Ministries (podcasts, free Bible studies, free books to prison ministries, etc.). I’ve tried to make it as affordable as a tall cup of coffee once a month.
But however you subscribe, friend, your support makes me dance in my living room. I’m so grateful you are on this adventure with me.
PS: Generous Orchid will be available on Amazon in one week. All paid subscribers will receive a code to purchase the book at no cost. I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready!
